1. How do I add Streams?
All our streams are housed in our StreamStore. You can add streams using four different methods:
Featured: Our “Featured” section contains our hot picks for the best streams. To add a Featured stream, simply tap the + button on any of the icons of streams you like.
Topics: Our “Topics” section contains more top picks organized by subject matter. Browse through the Topics listed on the StreamStore and add anything you like from the list of Topics.
Search: There are two ways to search on Taptu. You can search by the name of the Web site or blog you are looking for, or you can search by keywords. For example, if you know you want TechCrunch, simply type TechCrunch in the search box. Or, if you’d like to see a wider selection, you’d type in “technology,”. If our StreamStore does not bring up any results, you can search for an RSS on Bing by tapping “More results (Bing RSS)”.
Import from Google Reader: Log in to your Google account and add up to 100 RSS feeds from your Google Reader account. Taptu will convert those into streams for you.
Tip: If you don’t know how to get to the StreamStore just click on the + button on the main view of Taptu.
2. How do I DJ My News (Mix and Merge Streams)?
You can DJ your Streams in the StreamStudio. From the main view, tap on the Pencil button. While in the StreamStudio you can do the following:
Mix: Select the Streams you would like to Mix by ticking inside the box to the right. To merge the streams, tap on the highlighted Merge Button.The list of Sources on the new Stream will be updated. You will then be asked to give the new Stream a name or you can opt in to keep the default title (“Merged Stream”).
Unmerge/Delete: You can alter a merged stream any time. If you decide you’d like to remove a source from either your merged stream or one of our Mixed streams, you can easily do this. Just select the Source you want removed by clicking on the tick box and click on the Delete button. Alternatively, you can select a Source and Unmerge it. This action will create a separate, new stream of the unmerged Source on Taptu.
3. How do I change the color of a stream?
You can do this two different ways:
StreamStudio: Select the Stream you would like to color code. Click on the Settings Tab and find the option to change the color of the stream; a wide range of colours will be on display for you to chose from.
Stream/Edit: Click on the small Arrow on the Title bar of each Stream. A set of Options will show up including the option to Edit. Click on the Settings Tab and then opt in to change the color of the Stream; a wide range of colors will be on display for you to chose from. Click OK to save your settings.
4. How do I increase/decrease size of the Streams?
There are three different sizes of Streams for Android phones and tablets. To increase/decrease the size of the Streams you need to click on the small cards appearing on the title of the Stream on the main view of the App. The default size is M(edium) but you can increase it to L(arge) or decrease it to S(mall). You will need to do this for every stream of which you want to change the size.
5. How do I change the size of the fonts?
Under the Settings page there is an option to change the size of the fonts. The default size is Medium but you can easily increase it to Large or Small if you like.
6. How do I refresh the streams?
There are two ways to refresh the Streams:
Shake to Refresh: You can refresh all Streams by shaking your device. A funny sound effect will confirm all of theĀ Streams are being refreshed.
Refresh Button: On the main Taptu view, the standard Refresh button is on display. Tap on the Refresh button and all of the Streams will automatically refresh.
Pull to the Right: If you only want to refresh just one Stream, go to the first card of the Stream and pull it to the right. The Stream will be refreshed and new cards – if any are available – will show up.
7. How do I save an article to read later? How do I save to Instapaper?
You can now save each article to read later or even send to Instapaper. On every story, there is a Star icon. Tap on the star, which will then turn green. A new stream of saved articles will now appear in theĀ main view of the app. You can remove the green star by tapping on it again – the story will then be removed from the new Stream of Saved Stories.
Alternatively, you can save to Instapaper by clicking on the share icon and tapping on the Instapaper button. Just log in to Instapaper from Taptu and the article you sent to Instapaper will show up the next time you log in there.
8. How do I share Streams?
Mixed up a stream or found one you think your friends will love? You can click on the Arrow button next to the name of the stream on the main view of the app where you will find the option to Share the stream. As with articles, you can share the stream via email, Twitter or Facebook. The name of the stream and a URL will be sent each time. Your friends can then view the stream via their browser and add the stream on Taptu if they have the app. They can also find a link to download the app if they haven’t done so already and consequently add the stream you have kindly sent to them.
9. How do I tell my friends about this App?
So you love Taptu and want to spread the word? Tap on the (i) button on the main view of the app and show your love via sending the link to download the app to your friends on Twitter and Facebook or via email.
