Taptu wins Best News App Ever Award!

We were confident that Taptu is the ‘best app ever’ but now it has been proven, as earlier today it was announced that we won the Best App Ever awards 2011 for Best News App on the Android platform. The Best App Ever Awards, now in its fourth year, were created to celebrate the best mobile apps and games available as voted by its readers and this year it had over one million votes overall.

On the iOS platform alone, the number of apps available has reached over 500,000 which means competition was tough. It’s a great feeling that our hard work to develop and design Taptu has proven so popular amongst its users and it was seen as a winner over other credible news reader apps such as Flipboard, Pulse and Google Currents.

Not content with awarding Taptu with Best News App, it was also honorably mentioned for both Most Useful App and Best Visual Design which is fantastic as we work hard to ensure that our social news reader enables the user to enjoy reading the news from a visual aspect as well as having the ability to totally personalize their experience.

Well done to everyone involved with Taptu, and thanks to everyone for voting, it means a lot to us.

Press Release: Maak je eigen Pers!

Persbericht

Amsterdam, 23-01-2012

Hello Taptus fans,

Today we are very excited to announce an exclusive offering for our friends on Nook Color. The Taptu Fashion Application is now available to download.

Taptu Fashion is our little tribute to the world of Fashion, the from the best loved fashion magazines to the fashion bloggers and the people that make all of us look good….

We have brought together streams that will let you stay up to date with the latest trends, find out what Sarah Jessica Parker was wearing last night or even figure out tips about staying beautiful and keeping fit.

Taptu Fashion still gives you access to streams from a wide range of other topics, i.e. news, sports, finance, etc; with Taptu Fashion, you can also check what your Friends are doing on Facebook or what the people you follow Tweet about. Taptu Fashion is not just the ultimate guide to Fashion but the best companion for your news.

Last but not least, our favorite DJ-ing feature is also available on Taptu Fashion. We hope you will create more streams about fashion and share them back to your friends to help them stay in tune.

Give Taptu Fashion for the Nook a try and let us know what you think!

And as Miranda Priestly would say: “That’s all.”

Bye for now,
KP

Hello,

When you work at a start-up, you need to improvise sometimes….

When you have to shoot a video–in this case an intro to our newly launched Taptu for Nook app–for example, and you have forgotten your SLR tripod at home, you’ve got to figure out another way to stabilize the camera. That’s where a rack mount server comes in handy–especially because you can use the rails to attach the camera too.

A few engineering books to elevate the server are as useful as the server itself.

You also need to ensure there is no reflection from the ceiling – so a whiteboard is your best friend.

Next comes the Nook with Taptu installed; 4 pieces of white tack to attach the device on the table; and last but not least a few cushions to kneel on to record the video, voice over it, etc…and there you go!

So…4 Engineers and 1 Editor united, using standard office equipment in a Technology company and the video is shot: 3, 2, 1 and ACTION!

Hello Taptu fans:

We’ve been tinkering with the app again and we’ve got some great improvements with Taptu for iPhone version 1.6. So, what have we got for the latest update?

Linkedin Likes and Comments: Twitter and Facebook usually get all the love, but in 1.6 we’ve turned our attention to LinkedIn and added the ability to Like and Comment in your LinkedIn stream.

Color coding and unmerging on iPhone: Keeping in line with our Taptu for iPad version, we’ve now added the ability to color code all of your streams on the iPhone. That’s right, go ahead and tap into your inner geek and assign a separate color for all of your different stream groupings. We’ve also added the ability to unmerge on the iPhone. Sometimes, you might be reading one of our mixed streams or your own curated streams and want to see a source in its own stream. You can now go to the StreamStudio to do this.

Preview a Stream before you add it: Have you found a Stream and you want to take a look of its contents before you add it? Click on the preview button and navigate through the stories of that Stream. Keep it if you like it or discard it if you don’t.

Updated Tutorial: We hope you find Taptu intuitive, but just in case, we’ve tweaked our tutorial to make it easier than ever to understand quickly all of Taptu’s many features.

Finally, we’ve further tuned-up the app fixing a few bug and making the overall Taptu experience speedier. We hope you enjoy the latest update. And, as some of the new features are based on your feedback, please keep it coming, we’d love to hear your ideas.

Last but not least, there is a hidden feature – one we are very proud of. We are going to turn it ON really soon, so stay tuned.

Thanks, KP.
